Privacy Policy

We believe in being upfront about how we handle your information. Here's a plain-English explanation of what we do and don't do.

What we collect from visitors

When you browse and search on our site, we record:

  • Search terms - what filters and keywords you use when searching for activities
  • Which listings you click on - when you tap "Read more" on a listing
  • Website click-throughs - when you click to visit a business's website
  • Promo code requests - if you request a promo code, we record the email address you provide along with which listing it was for

What we don't collect

  • IP addresses - we don't store your IP address in our own records
  • Our own cookies - we don't set any tracking cookies ourselves (Google Analytics sets its own, see below)
  • Personal browsing history - we don't track which pages you visit across the internet or build a profile about you
  • Device fingerprinting - we don't use any techniques to identify your device

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand visits to the site - how many people arrive, where they come from, and which pages they look at. Google Analytics sets cookies on your browser to do this, and the data it collects is processed by Google under Google's privacy policy. We only see aggregated reports, not information that identifies you. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.

Promo code emails

If you enter your email address to receive a promo code, we'll send you that code and nothing else. We won't add you to any mailing list, we won't send you marketing emails, and we won't share your email address with the business or anyone else. We store the record that we sent you a code so we can avoid sending duplicates.

Business owner accounts

If you create a business owner account, we collect the following information:

  • Email address - used for account authentication and communication about your listings
  • Business name - the name of your business or organisation
  • Contact person - the name of the primary contact at your business
  • Phone number - a phone number we can use to reach you

This business contact information is collected solely so that we can contact you for dealings relating to Do Auckland - for example, to discuss your listings, promotions, or sponsored content. This information is for our internal use only, will not appear on your public listings, and will not be sold to or shared with third parties.

You may also optionally add a public contact phone number and/or email address to individual listings if you wish visitors to be able to contact you directly. These are separate from your account contact details and are displayed publicly on your listing page.

Authentication is handled by Clerk, and payment processing by Stripe, each under their own privacy policies.

How we use the data

The anonymous usage data we collect (searches, clicks) is used purely for internal reporting - understanding which types of activities people are looking for and which listings are popular. This helps us improve the site and helps business owners understand how their listings perform.

We do not sell your data to anyone. Apart from Google Analytics as described above, we do not share individual-level data with third parties.
