The Mothership is the nearest proper club to the Viaduct, nine minutes on foot up Shortland Street. It is independently run and works with promoters and collectives rather than programming everything itself, which is why the calendar swings between house, techno, disco and Latin from one week to the next. International bookings land here regularly. Nights are ticketed and go on sale ahead, and the bigger ones sell out, so check before you walk up. Some events run as daytime parties in the afternoon rather than overnight. It operates Friday and Saturday, with the programme posted weekly. If your evening in the Viaduct needs somewhere to go at eleven, this is the answer that does not involve a taxi.
